Priyasha Foundation

Priyasha means, "dear, beloved hope" in Sanskrit and Hindhi. Our mission is to bring hope to the impoverished women and girls of India through income generation projects and social entrepreneurship.
We work with poor and orphan girls, slum women, girls that have been rescued from sex trafficking by setting up workshops and teaching them jewelry , a marketable skill so the women can provide for themselves.
If you'd like to support us, you can click on the donate button below, donate tools, or other resources. We welcome the opportunity to partner with your income generation project in the developing world. Please feel free to contact us directly at gretchenmclaren@yahoo.com.

Where my worlds collide:

Combine the lessons learned from a beloved college professor 20 some odd years ago, mix profusely with the re-kindling of a Penland friendship and his kick a$& studio.

Yield: 25 soldering picks, made from wire coat hangers.

Cost: $0.00
(Pure labor of joy and love)

Use: To take back to India so I can teach the girls soldering skills.

Value to the girls:
Learn a new marketable skill, earn $ so they can provide for and empower themselves. For those girls that choose to re-invest in their own education?
Priceless.

Many of you all have asked how you can help, what sorts of supplies are needed.

I will be going back to India to teach soldering and wax working techniques to very vulnerable and at risk population of girls.  These girls are employed in a successful program that enables for them to empower themselves and earn a decent living through jewelry.

I’m raising money for supplies and expenses, and asking for tool donations, specifically focusing on soldering tools and equipment.

The list of tools is below.  If you have some extra tools sitting around your studio that you’d like to donate, please contact me.

If you’d like to make a monetary donation, or an ongoing monthly donation to support our work, the link is to your right, or listed below:

Why hello, FL! Really looking forward to working with Made by Survivors this week. They do great work training girls in jewelry that have been rescued from human trafficking. Check them out here: www.madebysurvivors.com

In India when I gathered boxes for packing the jewelry tools, I had to find a wholesale shop and then bargain down to 40 rupees per box. Big. Indian. Drama.

I really have the best friends. On this side of the world, folks in the wine biz save me boxes. I have a lot of jewelry tools left to pack for India…

Hello everyone!

Many of you have asked for me to keep you updated on my adventures as I embark on this journey to India.  You can follow me here on Tumblr.

Here’s info on my project and campaign:  http://www.indiegogo.com/The-Hope-Project

Again, thank you for all of your love, support and generosity.  Please keep it coming, contribute if you can, only 22 days until I leave.  Please share the link, email it, FB, tweet…whatever.  Pass it on.

Today’s project is to order the tools and materials I’m going to take with me in a suitcase to set up the studio.  My goal is a minimum of $1,000.00 to buy tools for the girls.

Thank you, thank you!

Warmly,

Gretchen
